Two Salisbury men were arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Keonte Gaskins last month at an apartment complex, according to Maryland State Police.

Arrested were Gerald Ogress Savage Jr., 18, of the 400 block of Brookridge Drive, and Joshue Isiah Perry, 18, of the 400 block of South Kaywood Drive, police said.

Both Savage and Perry were charged with first and second-degree murder, use of a firearm in a violent crime, possession of firearm and several other charges, police said. Additional arrests are pending, they said.

The men were arrested without incident on May 29 and are being held without bail in the Wicomico County Detention Center, police said.

On May 11, the body of Gaskins, 21, of no fixed address, was found in the outdoor stairwell of the Village of Mitchell Pond Apartment Complex on Parsons Road in Salisbury, police said.

Residents from the apartment complex called 911 after seeing the body. Emergency medical personnel pronounced Gaskins dead at the scene. He had multiple gunshot wounds, police said.

State police are continuing to interview those who may have information relevant to the investigation and asking them to call 410-749-3101.

Man found drowned in Wicomico River

A 43-year-old man died from drowning in the Wicomico River near Mill Street Monday, according to Salisbury City Police.

The body of Thomas Richard Hitchens Jr. was found around 8 a.m. near the 200 block of Mill Street, after police were told an adult male was in the water. Area business employees called 911 after seeing the body as they opened their businesses for the day, police said.

Police said an investigation revealed the victim was found just north of Salisbury Parkway along the embankment. Detectives are still working to determine how the victim entered the water. There were no signs of trauma, police said.

The body was sent to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

Police said Hitchens was wearing black jeans, a short-sleeved blue and black button up shirt and orthopedic medical boot on his right foot.
