Smyrna sees 6.5 inches of snow, Harrington and Dover 5.4 each

After several days of weather forecasts, heavy snow began falling throughout Delaware overnight.

Smyrna saw 6.5 inches as of 5 p.m. Jan. 25, while Dover and Harrington each had  5.4, according to the Delaware Environmental Observing System:

The National Weather Service predicted snow and sleet in Dover before 3 p.m., then rain, freezing rain, and sleet between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. then rain after 4 p.m.
 
The snow and sleet could be heavy at times with a high temperature near 36 degrees. Northeast wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph are forecast, the NWS said.
 
According to the NWS, little or no ice accumulation is expected. A total daytime snow and sleet accumulation of 3 to 7 inches is possible.
 
On Jan. 26, the NWS said, there's a chance of sleet before 7 a.m. Mostly sunny skies are expected, with a high near 31.
 
The chance of precipitation is 30% and little or no sleet accumulation is expected, the NWS said.
