I recently read about the dredging project near Delaware City that would result in the draining of a pond on the north side of the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal.
I have been fishing that Cox Neck Road pond for 15 years. I am horrified by this project. The tragedy here is not just for the Delawareans who love the fishing, but this project will kill thousands of fish, turtles, beavers and muskrats, and result in habitat loss for thousands of migratory birds.
This pond has been allowed to evolve into a home for all this magnificent wildlife, and now, it’s going to be destroyed. There must be a better way.
