One dead following Dover fire

Posted

DOVER — One person died of injuries in a house fire Thursday in the 800 block of Sunset Terrace.

That afternoon, the Dover Fire Department was alerted to a structure fire and learned en route that there was an occupant inside, according to a news release from the city.

The statement added that the fire chief and first engine arrived on scene at 1:21, within two-and-a-half minutes of the 911 call. They found flames coming from the first floor at the front and back of the residence.

The Dover Police Department already had several units on scene, and officers forced entry through a rear door and located the victim, the city reported.

The city’s Fire Marshal’s Office, St. Francis Emergency Medical Services and Kent County Paramedics also assisted. The victim was transported to Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus in Dover but succumbed to injuries, the release said.

The scene was placed under control at 2:07, and the last unit cleared at 3:18, it added.

The police department and fire marshal are conducting a joint investigation, as is common with fatal fires in city limits.
