Olga Mae Boyd Nickerson

GOLDSBORO, Md. - Olga Mae Boyd Nickerson, 86, of Goldsboro, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, in Bayhealth Medical Center, Dover, Del. She was born Feb. 24, 1924, in Rising Sun, to the late Roland and Rosa Deel Boyd. Mrs. Nickerson was a nurse's assistant at the Hospital for the Chronically Ill of Smyrna for many years. She had been a substitute school teacher prior to working at the hospital. During WWII she was a seamstress making uniforms for the soldiers. She enjoyed Bluegrass music and playing guitar since she was seven years old. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her four brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, John L. "Pete" Nickerson of Goldsboro; son, Russell Nickerson and wife Cindy of Denton; daughter, Lucille Wilson and husband Minos of Georgetown, Del.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and her faithful dog, Jack. Visitation will be held at Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home, P.A., 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro, on Monday Jan. 3, from 7 to 9 p.m. Graveside service will be in Denton Cemetery, Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2010, at 11 a.m., where interment will follow.
