CAMBRIDGE — The Nanticoke Historic Preservation Alliance will have their Annual Meeting on Nov. 15, at the Robbins Center of the Dorchester County Historical Society. The meeting starts at 4 p.m. with a “Meet and Greet” time and appetizers and refreshments!

The featured presentation, “The History of the Maryland Soldier,” is produced and presented by the Friends of Maryland’s War of 1812. This dedicated group of volunteers wish to honor and interpret the joys, hardships, and sacrifices experienced by our Maryland forefathers since its founding in 1634. Each individual in this presentation has spent countless hours researching the uniform, weapons, and equipment of their historical period, and in the majority of cases at their own expense. With few exceptions, the volunteers have acquired from craftsmen or personally made their own reproduction uniforms and equipment based on the very original items utilized by their historic counterparts.

The presentation incorporates period historical music and stirring narration with living history portrayals to bring to life our collective Maryland military history in an engaging atmosphere. The time period being represented is from the founding of Maryland in 1634 to the end of the 19th Century, encompassing over 250 years of military history for the Old Line State.

The purpose of this educational presentation is to provide fuller understanding of the life and times of the Maryland soldier through the Centuries through the illustration of the uniforms, weapons, and equipment. However, we must remember that these materials in any age, are only as good as those who carried them. Thus, we dedicate this program to all of Maryland’s fighting forces, both past and present.

This presentation is being given for the first time on the Eastern Shore and goes toward the NHPA commitment to Living History as a way of teaching about our past.  The Annual Meeting is sponsored by Rob Davis, CPA of Salisbury.
