New headmaster brings energy to Salisbury Christian School

What on the Eastern Shore would be of interest to a big-city guy accustomed to the culture and opportunities of cities like Atlanta and Orlando?

“Clams, crabs, shrimp, and oysters, of course!” says Dr. Bob Burris, “As well as the chance to better one of the premier private schools on the Shore.”

Burris recently moved to Salisbury to serve as the new headmaster of Salisbury Christian School.

He began working in June but is excited that school has finally begun.

Burris has stimulating and refreshing ideas for the Christian school and its 520 students in Pre-K3 through 12th grade.

He plans to prepare the school for a new overall strategic plan while also reviewing the school’s marketing plan, hoping to “further establish SCS as a school of choice in the minds of Eastern Shore families.”

He is also leading the way for SCS’s new elementary school iPad initiative and high school bring-your-own-device program.

“We want to afford our students every opportunity to succeed not only in the four years that follow high school but also in their careers.  Technology is such an integral part of our society today that we simply must include it in our educational systems.”

Burris, a Liberty University graduate, has a varied and extensive background in education that informs each of his decisions for SCS.

Though he began his career as a middle school history teacher, Burris soon changed paths in order to be more involved in challenging students to set and achieve goals.

He therefore decided to move into more administrative roles, serving as guidance director, dean of students, and high school principal in Orlando.  Immediately prior to moving to Salisbury, Burris served as head of school at two institutions in Atlanta.

SCS is excited for the new phase of organizational life Dr. Burris’s arrival has prompted.

The elementary school principal, Kim Baker, says of Burris, “Even though he’s not from the Eastern Shore, he is doing a great job of mixing his big city vigor and style with our area’s community feel.”

Burris will be an Eastern Shore man soon enough, however; he went on his first hunting trip last weekend.

Founded in 1966, Salisbury Christian School exists to honor Jesus Christ by offering a comprehensive educational program founded upon Biblical truth and academic excellence to students in Pre-K3 through grade 12.

SCS seeks to develop its 520 students intellectually, spiritually, socially, and physically, in order to create individuals who stand at graduation sad to leave but confident in their preparation for life.
