NEW CASTLE — New Castle County Council received a budget update from County Executive Matt Meyer on Tuesday that included a $15 minimum wage for county workers and no property tax increases.
“What we have learned this past year is we can endure through a long quarantine and through the toughest economic times, and we can emerge stronger, more creative and even more united,” the executive said in a press release.
That release said the county’s operating budget for fiscal year 2022 will be about $311.6 million, which is a 2.68% increase from 2021.
The proposed capital budget, including both general fund and sewer fund projects, came out to about $60.3 million, a 7.5% decrease from fiscal year 2021.
Mr. Meyer will hold a series of online community conversations over the next two months.
The dates are March 31 at 6 p.m., April 5 at 6 p.m., April 15 at 6 p.m. and April 19 at noon. Guests can RSVP for the meetings through New Castle County's Facebook page.
