Nancy H. Jewell

HARTLY - Nancy H. Jewell, of Hartly, died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010, at her daughter's home. She was 82. Mrs. Jewell was born Sept. 29, 1928, in Philadelphia, Pa., to the late Albert and Bertha Lane. She had worked for Lee Travel Ware as a seamstress before becoming a private seamstress. Mrs. Jewell enjoyed arts and crafts, and had won several blue ribbon awards. She had also taught arts and crafts at the Modern Maturity Center and Victory Chapel Church both in Dover as well as teaching family members. Mrs. Jewell had also been the Chaplin for many years at the Silverlake Fishing Club in Hartly formerly of Dover. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Jewell; and her son-in-law, Juan Diaz. Mrs. Jewell is survived by her children, Wanda Thompson (Charles), Wilma Diaz with whom she lived, Walter Darrell "Pole" (Selena Brown) and Johnann Barnes (Benny); stepson, Edward Jewell of Hartly; grandchildren, Benny, Amanda, Adam, Johny, Alan, Janet, Stevie, Michael, Walter, Carlton and Kimberly; siblings, Jack, Ethel, Bertha, Janice, Emma and Mike; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be noon, Monday, Dec. 20, 2010, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford Street, Dover. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. Dupont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
