Myrtle W. Tomlinson, 95

DOVER - Myrtle W. Tomlinson, of Dover, died Monday, Oct. 5, 2009, in Beebe Hospital, Lewes. She was 95. Mrs. Tomlinson was born Jan. 20, 1914, in Choptank, Md., to the late Frank F. Whiteley and Harriet Goodman Whiteley. She worked as a waitress for Alexander's Restaurant for many years and then went to work as a Dietician for the Delaware State Police Academy retiring at age 65. Mrs. Tomlinson was on the Junior Board of Kent General Hospital and volunteered at Modern Maturity Center in Dover and was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church. Mrs. Tomlinson was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Tomlinson in 1987; her brothers, Roy, Carroll, Alvin, Dorsey, and Vernon Whiteley; and her sister, Mamie McDonald. She is survived by her niece and caregiver, Carolyn Jensen of Georgetown, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be noon, Friday, Oct. 9, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Dover. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, 209 S. State Street, Dover, DE 19901.
