“The system is broken when those least impacted by the housing crisis have the loudest veto power.” This quote is from Lillian Harrison, the president and CEO of Elevated Community Development Corp. She is 100% correct. Why else would Kent County outwardly stand in the way of a Little Living project?
This village would house about 150 families and include a community center, a safe playground, walking and biking paths, and public transportation. Why would people of great means and power be against the project, when they do not live anywhere near the site?
This is a “not in my backyard” topic. But the public does not realize the issue because those with the “pulpit” have the loudest voice, and those who have the greatest need do not get their voices heard.
Wake up, Kent County! The Little Living project should have already broken ground. However, every day, people who need these homes wait in silence.
