Muriel H. Deering, 91
DOVER - Muriel H. Deering, of Dover, died Saturday, March 28, 2009, in Kent General Hospital. She was 91. Muriel was born Nov. 23, 1917, in Iowa and moved to Pomona, Calif., at the age of 12. Muriel grew up in Pomona and later moved to Los Angeles, Calif., where she lived for over 60 years. She was a loving mother and Pastor's wife who served as an active Southern Baptist most of her life. She worked and retired from GTE (General Telephone Company) then traveled the world. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was a social butterfly. Muriel lived a long and prosperous life and managed to travel near and far without ever having a driver's license. Muriel moved to Dover in 1994 with her husband Rev. Clayborn Deering to support her son-in-law, Pastor William Sturgeon Sr. to establish Church on the Westside. She later attended First Southern Baptist Church in Dover and became an active member. She is survived by her daughter, Donna J. Sturgeon of Dover; her son, Robert Anderson and his wife Karolyn of Long View, Wash.; her sister, Kathryn Crossland and her husband Hemet of California; grandchildren, Deanna Luprete, William Sturgeon Jr., Darlene Sturgeon, Daniel Sturgeon, Wayne Anderson, Joylyn Williams; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held noon Saturday at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford St., Dover. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park Cemetery.
