Msgt. Jack Thomas Katchmark (Ret), 72

On Sunday, Feb. 22, while surrounded by a host of family members, angels gently lifted Jack from his wife's loving arms to be with God forever more. Born May 1, 1936 in Harwick, Pa., Jack later met Marjorie, the love of his life, and they were married on March 8, 1957. Jack was proud to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force. It was a career that allowed him and his family to experience the wonders of this country he loved so much and offered him the opportunity to meet many, many friends. After his retirement, in 1976 he found a new career family with Camdel Metals Company. After his second retirement, he set his mind on enjoying life away from work. Jack loved to hunt and fish. He loved to visit his "secret" crabbing spot on the Chesapeake Bay. He enjoyed these activities most when sharing the time with his family. You could often find Jack working with his hands refinishing furniture or working on a building project. He passed on a love for all of these things to his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered often as they carry on his ways. He was a devoted to his family always finding time to support them with their careers and hobbies. His dedication to his wife never wavered and they remained constant companions to the very end. As if a biological family and career family weren't enough, Jack enjoyed yet another family through his friends at the Moose Lodge. He was a devoted member dedicated to his commitment to support the award winning Camden-Wyoming Moose Ritual Team. He seldom missed working a Monday night bingo game. His tireless work ethic and commitment to his family were an inspiration to all who met him. Jack was a gentle man who never met a stranger and whose ability to show kindness was unending. It's hard to tell how many people his kind and gentle spirit touched. Just as it is hard to say how many more he will continue to touch through his gift of giving to the organ donor program. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Julia Katchmark. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marjorie (Michael) Katchmark; his son, Michael Thomas Katchmark and his wife Adrianna, of Fla.; his daughter, Michele Twilley and her husband Ben and their three sons, Charles Buck Dougherty (his wife Jenn and their three children), Thomas Vance Dougherty and Henry Ryan Dougherty, his daughter, Ester Knotts and her husband Richard and their two daughters, Tina Knotts and Brittany Knotts, his daughter Jaclene Katchmark-Sackenreuter and her husband Allan and their son Jack O"Neal. Jack is also survived by his sister, Caroline Magda and her husband Joseph, of Jefferson, Pa., and two brothers-in-law, Ted Michael and wife Kay of Elkton, Md., and Carl Michael of Salt Springs, Fla. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to The CV/SICU united at BayHealth Kent General Hospital, Dover, DE; and/or The Chesapeake Bay Foundation, 6 Herndon Ave., Annapolis, MD 21403 www.CBF.org. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2009 at Trader Funeral Home, 12 Lotus St., Dover. Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009 at the funeral home and a Moose service will be at 7 p.m. Burial will be at Sharon Hill Memorial Park, Dover. Letters of condolences may be sent to www.delmarvaobits.com or traderfh@aol.com.
