Motorist charged with fifth offense DUI in Lewes

LEWES — Louis Morelli 69, of Lewes, was charged with a fifth offense DUI following a traffic stop Friday, Delaware State Police spokesman Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto said.

On Friday afternoon, the Delaware State Police arrested 69-year-old Louis Morelli of Lewes, Delaware for felony DUI after a traffic stop that occurred in Lewes.

Police said Mr. Morelli was stopped after committing traffic violations in the area of Dairy Farm Road and Beaver Dam Road at approximately 1 p.m. Police said that the trooper detected signs of impairment with Mr. Morelli and he was subsequently taken into custody for DUI.

A computer check showed that Mr. Morelli has four prior convictions for DUI.

Besides the felony DUI, Mr. Morellia was charged with numerous traffic violations. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $7,000 secured bond.
