Mitchell James Robert Barter passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. He was 21 years young. He was born in Dover at 6:05 p.m. on November 19, 1999 to Mark and Michelle Barter.
Mitchell grew up playing too many sports to count. He attended Polytech High School, where he thrived as a varsity baseball player and was given the nickname "Moonshot Mitch". After graduating, Mitchell went on to start his own business as a successful day trader. He spent his time being the best little brother in the world, putting smiles on the faces of everyone around him, and always being the most stylish in the room.
"There's one thing we can all agree on. Mitch was a freak athlete and a hell of a competitor. Can't remember one time I beat him at something. Whether it was dunking on me, hitting a double or triple, or even him winning our fantasy league this year. The man never lost at anything and he always did it with a smirk on his face! Always moved in style, he's one of those big dogs I always looked up to. After high school, I always asked for advice from him. And he wasn't a guy to shy away from helping someone. If he saw potential in you he'd do whatever it takes to help you succeed. You never know how much someone means to you until they're gone. Just remember, heroes get remembered but legends never die. Fly high buddy." – Parker Garrison
He was preceded in death by several grandparents and great-grandparents, who welcomed him home with open arms.
In addition to his parents, Mitchell is survived by his sister, Meagan Barter; brother, KJ Knowles; his French bulldog fur baby, Houston; uncle, Robert Hill; cousins, Jacob and Aiden Hill, and Marissa Coleman; aunt, Kelly Barter; maternal grandfather, Dale Hill; paternal grandparents, Brenda and George Brown, and David Barter; his best friend Eric Nam; and numerous family and friends across the country. He will be missed beyond comprehension.
Memorial services will be held at 11:19 a.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Rd. (Rt. 10), Dover. Please dress casual and wear red. Services will be streamed online for those who cannot be in attendance, www.facebook.com/torbertfuneralchapels.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to be made to the Camden Wyoming Little League (PO Box 0, Camden Wyoming, DE, 19934) or the Mental Health Association in Delaware (mhainde.org) in Mitchell's honor.
Letters of condolence may be sent and online guestbook signed at www.torbertfuneral.com
