Miriam 'Chick' H. Butler, 91
ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. - Miriam "Chick" H. Butler, 91, of Zephyrhills, formerly of Greensboro and Hebron, Md., died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, in Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Md. She was born on Feb. 20, 1918, in Ridgely, Md., to the late Harry E. and Gertrude Rowland Holsinger. Mrs. Butler was a 1935 graduate of Ridgely High School. She began college at Blue Ridge College, New Windsor, Md., where she received 2 medals including Best All-Around College Woman. She transferred to Bridgewater College in Virginia where she received her B.S. degree in teaching in 1939. Upon graduating she began teaching in Greensboro High School, and then retired from North Caroline High School in 1975. She married her husband Harold Butler in 1943; they were married for 44 years before his death in 1997. Mrs. Butler was active in 4-H during her teen years. During married life she was active in the community and at St. Paul's United Methodist Church of Greensboro. In 1997 she was awarded the Outstanding Citizens Award by the Greensboro Business Association. She moved to Hebron, Md., in 1989 and went on to make Zephyrhills home in 2003. She enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends. She is survived by her son, Lee Butler of Laurel, Del.; two grandchildren, Dayle Calloway of Mardela Springs, Md., and James Butler of San Diego, Calif.; three great-grandchildren, Jordan Calloway, Emily Calloway, and Sidney Butler. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold F. Butler; one brother, Rodney Holsinger; and one sister, Vivian Altemus. Services will be 3 p.m., Monday, Sept. 28, at Fleegle & Helfenbein Funeral Home, 106 W. Sunset Ave., Greensboro, where a visitation will be held one hour prior.
