Minister Elijah Worthy Sr. BELLE GLADE, Fla. - On Saturday, March 20, 2010, God in His infinite glory gave our father, Minister Elijah Worthy Sr., everlasting life. He was born Nov. 25, 1935, to the late Jessie Worthy Sr. and Mary Lizzie Worthy in Macon County, Ga. Two brothers, Willie James Worthy and Jessie Worthy Jr., preceded him in death. At an early age he joined Zion Hill Baptist Church. He was educated in the public school system of Macon County. He moved to Greenwood, Del., for at better life and was a self-employed contractor. In 1958, he met the love of his life, Joyce Jackson. To this union five children were born. Around 1979, he moved to Belle Glade, Fla., where he continued employment as a contractor. Elijah received his Christian training in the local churches. At a later date, he joined the membership of Glorious Community Holiness Church of Jesus, where he was ordained as a minister. He was very spiritually motivated individual who loved talking about the goodness of God. On March 20, 1999, he was joined in holy matrimony to the former Joann Williams. Survivors are: devoted wife of 11 years, Joann Williams Worthy; six loving children, Elaine Lamb, Elijah C. Worthy (Sodonia), Michael L. Worthy (Shelley Morris), Ladoris R. Thompson (Robert Barkley), Eric D. Worthy (Roxanne), and Ivan T. Worthy (Kaylah); three stepchildren, Tequesta Hill, Tanginki Terrell (Dean), and Leroy Williams; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and nine loving and devoted siblings, Margaret Starks, Minerva Greene, Bradie Worthy (Ivey), Charles Worthy, Eddie Worthy (Robin), Robert Worthy (Edjar Mae), Rose Johnson, Mary Helen Jackson, and Emmitt Worthy (Marilyn); mother-in-law, Johnnie Sharpe; brothers- and sister-in-law, Donald Williams (Frankie), Levon Williams, Ruadean Butts, and Leatheo McBride; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends including a devoted friend, Raymond Jenkins, and a lifelong friend, Robert Jones. A memorial service will be 1 p.m., Saturday, May 1, 2010, at Mount Sinai Church, 113 NW 2nd St., Milford. Rev. Elmer Bratton, Pastor.
