MILFORD — Milford Public Library, in collaboration with Milford Museum, will host a four-part “History of Book Banning” series for ages 12 to 21. Each program will cover a unique century and connect the past to modern book challenges and censorship. The series was made possible by Books Unbanned Grant from Brooklyn Public Library.
Presentations will take place at the library, 11 S.E. Front St., will include “Book Banning in the Enlightenment (18th Century)” on Monday, May 11, from 4-5:30 p.m.; “Young Reader’s Rights (19 Century)” on Wednesday, May 27, from 4:30-5:30 p.m.; “Why Can’t I Read That (20 Century)” on Tuesday, June 2, from 4-5:30 p.m.; and “Book Bans in Today’s World (21 Century)” on Tuesday, June 9, from 4-5:30 p.m.
Presenters will include Pamela Ahern, Dr. Harvey Graff, Dr. Cynthia Newton, Kaitlyn Tanis, Jessica Dai and Elizabeth Mayer. Each speaker will have different activities in addition to their presentations. Refreshments will be provided and prizes will be awarded to attendees.
