Mildred Mae Bergold

DOVER - Mildred Mae Bergold of Edgewater Farms, Dover, formerly of Huntington, N.Y., died on Aug. 24, 2014, surrounded by family at Kent General Hospital. Mildred was born on Dec. 4, 1923, daughter of the late Christian and Anna Mae (Ryder) Yaiser. While living in Long Island, New York, Mildred worked for Grumman Aircraft as "Rosie the Riveter", a cultural icon of the World War II era. Mildred also participated in Plant 3 Softball League as a pitcher for the 1943 season. She received the Rosie the Riveter award in 2007 from the NY assembly honoring her for her WWII contributions. She moved to Delaware in 1949 where she and her husband, Lester Bergold owned and operated Edgewater Farms Inc., a potato and grain farm. She was a member and director of the Delaware Farm Bureau and the family was awarded Farm Family of the Year in 1998. During the administration of Governor Russell Peterson, Mildred volunteered as coordinator of hostesses and tours at Woodburn, The Governor's House. Mildred was a charter member of the Woodburn volunteers during the Governor Pete DuPont Administration. She was also appointed to the Medical Practice Board from 1990 to 1992 by Governor Michael Castle. She also volunteered in numerous political campaigns and in 2001 was awarded Republican of the Year. She especially enjoyed meeting with her friends in the Women's Republican Club, Newcomers Club, and Cowgills Home Extension Club. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Lester Bergold in 1991, her brothers; Frederick, 1991 and Robert Yaiser, 2007; sisters, Eleanor Soulagnet, 2000, and Edith Benson, 2014. She is survived by her brother Albert Yaiser and wife, Lucille, of Elkton, Md.; two sisters, Marjorie Benson, Betty Lizza and husband Lawrence Lizza, all of Long Island; two sons, Richard Lester Bergold and wife Jo, Edward Christian Bergold and fiancé, Ann Kumar; daughter Janice Tull and husband Richard, all of Dover, 14 grandchildren and four great- grandchildren, a host of loving nieces and nephews, extended family, dear friend and caregiver Maria Coleman and husband Gerald, and her loving dog, Reba. Services will be at Pippin Funeral Home, Camden, DE at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, 2014. Friends may call from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, 2014. Burial will be in Barratt's Chapel Cemetery, Frederica. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Trinity Wesleyan Church, 1564 S. State Street, Dover DE 19901; Little Creek Fire Company, P.O.
