Mildred Cora Dyer Owens

Mildred Cora Dyer Owens transitioned peacefully from this earthly life on Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at Virginia Beach General Hospital, Va. The daughter of the late George and Janie Butts Dyer, she was born on Jan. 24, 1924 in Wallaceton, Va. She received her primary schooling in the Norfolk public school system and later in the Philadelphia school system. Sister Owens married William McKinley Owens on Aug. 5, 1939, and remained a loving wife for 52 years until his death. Her husband predeceased her, as did her daughter, Wilhelmina Olee Owens; son-in-law, Arnold Jay Parham; and grandson, Jay Owens Parham. She is survived by, two daughters, Ada J. and Roy Taylor, Joan Parham; grandson, Wm. George and Michele Parham; granddaughter, Cynthia Veree and Apostle Lafayette Jenkins; nieces, Mary Hall (deceased, John Wesley), Peggy McCall (deceased, Mance Jr.), Geraldine and Robert Wright, Charolette O. White, Hildegarde and Andrew Richardson, Martha Lee and Mike Shivers, Yolanda and Ray Barrow; nephews, Bishop William and Dawn Kellam, Charles and Cora Owens; great-nieces, great-nephews and wonderful friends. Viewing was held Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Community Funeral Home, 1210 Ballentine Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23504, (757-625-7415), www.communityfh.com An additional viewing will be held Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, 11475 Commercial Lane-C, Laurel, DE 19956, 302-947-1144, www.millerfuneralandcremation.com Services will be held Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, at Trinity Faith Christian Center, 110 Broadway St., Fruitland, MD 21826, (410-677-3419). Burial will be in Old Field Cemetery, Route#24, Millsboro, DE 19966.
