DOVER - Very quietly and peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, almighty God in His infinite wisdom gently closed the eyes of our beloved father, brother, and friend, Michael Harvey Casson Sr. Mike Casson, Sr. was born on June 2, 1940, in Dover. He attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School and graduated from William Henry High School in 1959. He also graduated from Delaware State University in 1974 with a B.S. in Business Administration. Mr. Casson, affectionately known as Mike, was enlisted in the U.S. Army for two tours, 1959 to 1962 and 1963 to 1966, respectively. He served in the Army for over six years. Mr. Casson also worked at Reichold Chemical, Inc. for 35 years. Mr. Casson loved being active with the William Henry High School Alumni Association. He was known to many as "Mr. William Henry." He was an active member of the following organizations: Bid Whist Club in Reading, Pennsylvania, Delaware State University Alumni Association, and the Capital Esquires. Mike Casson, Sr. was married twice, first to Dr. Linda Casson-Hackett, to that union four children, Leandra, Michael, Enwan and Kenwan Casson. His second marriage was to Ms. Thomasena Johnson of Trenton, N.J. He was a jazz enthusiast, appreciating jazz artists such as Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Horace Silver. He was also a golf enthusiast, and enjoyed fishing, chess, discussing politics, cooking and was an avid swimmer and traveler. He fondly enjoyed spending time with his beloved family and friends. He was proceeded in death by his father, Clarence F. Casson; Mother, Eva Mae Casson; and brother, Sheldon Casson. He is survived by his four loving children, Reverend Leandra Casson Marshall (Charles Marshall) of Dover; Dr. Michael H. Casson, Jr. of Middletown; Enwan Casson of Baltimore, Md.; and Kenwan Casson of Smyrna; special friend, Judith Johnson of Cheswold; five brothers, Ronald Casson, (Mary Ann) of Dover; Darryl Casson, of Beverly, N.J.; Gregory Casson of Dover; Tony Casson of Dover; Odie Casson of Connecticut; three sisters, Yvonne Casson, of Beverly, N.J.; Stephanie Casson, of Dover; Dorinda Taylor (Sam) of Pennsauken, N.J.; two granddaughters, Giovanni Casson and Mashiah Casson-Jasseh; and one grandson, Enwan Casson Jr; a godson, Jeffrey Simmons; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Public Viewing will take place on Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Whatcoat U.M. Church, Saulsbury Road, Dover. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the church where friends may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at 11 a.m. in Veteran's Cemetery Bear, on Monday, Jan. 31, 2011. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook may be signed at www.benniesmithfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are being handled by Bennie Smith Funeral Home, Dover.
