Maryland lawmakers to meet in August for special session on redistricting
SUMMARY: Maryland lawmakers will meet for a special session next month to consider a constitutional amendment dealing with future congressional redistricting. Legislative leaders made the announcement Tuesday. It marks the latest move in the national battle over partisan redistricting that has reshaped the U.S. House map ahead of this year’s midterms and in states including Maryland could carry into the 2028 election cycle. Lawmakers will consider the amendment, which would make changes to the constitution as it relates to requirements for districts. If approved, that would go before votes this fall. Lawmakers could then revisit the maps in a future cycle.

Parents of Bucknell football player who died say they appreciate criminal charges against coach
SUMMARY: The parents of a Bucknell University football player who died after collapsing during the first day of training camp in 2024 say they appreciate that the Pennsylvania attorney general has brought criminal charges against the strength and conditioning coach who oversaw the session. Calvin “CJ” Dickey Jr. was a freshman in July 2024 when he died. Dickey had sickle-cell trait, a medical condition that can increase the risk of serious injury or death following extreme exertion. His parents say they are glad someone is being held accountable. An attorney for coach Mark Kulbis denies the charges and says the conditioning regimen was appropriate and followed his training.

Phillies' Wheeler sharply critical of MLB decision to exclude him from All-Star game
SUMMARY: Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Zack Wheeler says his career-high-tying 14-strikeout outing in a victory over the Cincinnati should be "a reminder" that Major League Baseball erred in excluding him from next week’s All-Star game. Wheeler says he's been given the impression by his agent that he was not selected to the National League roster because he is scheduled to pitch for the Phillies this weekend, just a couple days before the July 14 All-Star game in Philadelphia. But the 36-year-old Wheeler says he could have pitched an inning and says deserving pitchers should be recognized with at least an All-Star invitation, even if they ultimately don't pitch in the game.
