SUMMARY: Spencer Steer broke up a scoreless game with his 14th home run this season, Nick Lodolo pitched six scoreless innings, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Baltimore Orioles 3-2. Griffin's big day leads the Pirates to an 11-5 win over the Nationals
SUMMARY: Konnor Griffin had a tiebreaking two-run single in the eighth inning, leading the Pittsburgh Pirates over the Washington Nationals 11-5 in a game in which he was also spectacular in the field. Brandon Lowe followed Griffin’s key hit with a three-run homer off Brad Lord to extend the margin. Griffin, the 20-year-old shortstop who received a nine-year, $140 million contract back in April, showed why the Pirates view him as such an important part of their future. Gregory Soto got the win in relief.

Pirates manager after Griffin's big game: 'He’s going to help us win for a long time.'
SUMMARY: Konnor Griffin put on quite a show for the Pittsburgh Pirates. A single, a stolen base, two spectacular plays in the field — and finally, a bases-loaded hit that put his team ahead to stay. Pittsburgh’s 11-5 victory over the Washington Nationals on Sunday may have looked lopsided at the end, but it was tight much of the way — and Griffin repeatedly made big contributions. The 20-year-old shortstop, who received a nine-year, $140 million contract in April, showed the many ways he can impact a game.

Yankees LHP Max Fried faces hitters in simulated game for 2nd time since injuring left elbow
SUMMARY: New York Yankees starting pitcher Max Fried inched closer to a possible minor league rehab assignment, throwing 36 pitches in his second two-inning simulated game on Sunday. Before the Yankees concluded a three-game series with the Twins, Fried faced third baseman Ryan McMahon and catcher Ali Sánchez. Manager Aaron Boone said Fried’s next simulated game would likely occur Thursday or Friday with an increased pitch count and pitching in a minor league game could be the next step. The 32-year-old left-hander has been out since May 13, when he left a start in Baltimore after three innings.

Chris Gotterup wins John Deere Classic with a 62 and late help from Ben Kohles
SUMMARY: Chris Gotterup has won the John Deere Classic for his fourth PGA Tour title in the last 12 months. Gotterup shot a 62 in the final round at the TPC Deere Run. That helped him make up a five-shot deficit. And then he needed some help at the end. Ben Kohles was tied for the lead with Gotterup and in the middle of the 18th fairway. But he pulled his 8-iron into the water and then missed a short putt and took double bogey. Max Homa wound up in second for his best finish in more than three years.

Brazil left to second-guess penalty kick choice after earliest World Cup exit since 1990
SUMMARY: Vinícius Júnior had the ball at the penalty spot, a perfect chance to give Brazil the lead. And he handed it to Bruno Guimarães. And by the time Neymar took and made Brazil’s second penalty kick, it was too late for the five-time World Cup champions. Guimarães had his penalty shot stopped by Ørjan Nyland in the 14th minute and Brazil couldn’t get one past Norway’s goalkeeper until deep in stoppage time, losing 2-1 on Sunday in the round of 16 for its earliest World Cup exit since 1990. It was Brazil’s first unsuccessful penalty kick in the World Cup — not counting shootouts — since 1986.
