US--Deportation Error-Abrego Garcia-Timeline

From deportation to court, key events in Kilmar Abrego Garcia's fight with the Trump administration

SUMMARY: Kilmar Abrego Garcia entered the news in March 2025 after he was deported to El Salvador despite a court ruling that should have prevented it. His complicated legal fight since then has galvanized both sides of the debate over President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. There is a civil case in Maryland where he is challenging the Department of Homeland Security’s attempts to deport him again. There is also a criminal case in Tennessee, where the government accuses him of human smuggling. Finally, there is a petition in immigration court, where he hopes to pursue an asylum claim.

US--Deportation Error-Abrego Garcia

Kilmar Abrego Garcia freed from federal immigration detention on judge's order and returns home

SUMMARY: Kilmar Abrego Garcia has been released from an immigration detention center in Pennsylvania following an order from a federal judge issued Thursday. Abrego Garcia returned to his home in Maryland wearing a white shirt and orange hat hours after his release at 5 p.m. That was the deadline the judge gave the government for an update on Abrego Garcia’s release. He’s lived for years in Maryland, where he has an American wife and child, since originally immigrating to the U.S. illegally as a teenager. His attorney Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg said he’s not sure what comes next, but he’s prepared to defend his client against further deportation efforts.

Federal judge issues order to prohibit immigration officials from detaining Kilmar Abrego Garcia

SUMMARY: Kilmar Abrego Garcia has walked away after a scheduled appointment at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement field office after a federal judge ordered that officials could not detain him. Abrego Garcia appeared Friday for the appointment at a Maryland ICE office, some 14 hours after he was released from detention in Pennsylvania on a judge’s orders. His lawyers asked the judge to block authorities from detaining him again. The judge says officials cannot re-detain him until the court conducts a hearing on the motion for the temporary restraining order. Abrego Garcia became a flashpoint of the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown earlier this year when he was wrongly deported to a notorious prison in El Salvador.

US--Election 2026-Democrats-Law

Ryan Crosswell quit Trump's DOJ. Now his resignation letter is part of his stump speech for Congress

SUMMARY: Ryan Crosswell, a former federal prosecutor, is running for Congress after resigning when the Trump administration dropped corruption charges against New York City Mayor Eric Adams. He aims to unseat Republican Rep. Ryan Mackenzie in Pennsylvania. Crosswell's campaign focuses on his law enforcement background and concerns about Trump's influence on the justice system. Supporters at a recent event applauded his stance against perceived abuses of power. While Democrats generally focus on economic issues, Crosswell believes corruption is also a key concern. He argues that a corrupt government can impact everyday economic issues.

US--Commercial Driver's Licenses-Immigrants

New York may lose $73M in federal highway funds over flawed immigrant commercial driver's licenses

SUMMARY: Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says New York routinely issues licenses to immigrants that may be valid long after they're legally authorized to be in the country and he threatened to withhold $73 million in highway funds unless the system is fixed. New York officials said they are following all federal rules. New York is the latest Democratic state Duffy has targeted in his effort to make sure truck and bus drivers are qualified to get licenses that he launched after a truck driver who wasn't authorized to be in the U.S. made an illegal U-turn and caused a crash in Florida that killed three people. Duffy says investigators found that more than half of the 200 licenses they reviewed in New York were issued improperly.

FBC--T25-Army-Navy Preview

Army tries to turn the tables on No. 22 Navy when they renew their rivalry in Baltimore

SUMMARY: Army and No. 22 Navy meet Saturday in Baltimore for their annual clash. It’s the game players think about all season, and the one coaches have an eye on too. Both teams have secured bowl bids. Navy finished tied for first in the American Athletic Conference, missing out on the league title game because of tiebreakers. Last year Army won the AAC for the first conference title in the program’s storied history. The Black Knights were in the Top 25 before losing 31-13 to Navy. So this year is a chance for Army to turn the tables.

FBN--Ravens-Bengals-Preview Capsule

Ravens face Bengals in pivotal AFC North matchup as both teams try to keep playoff hopes alive

SUMMARY: The Baltimore Ravens face the Cincinnati Bengals for the second time in three weeks with both teams still having playoff hopes. The Ravens have dropped two straight and are one game behind Pittsburgh in the AFC North, while the Bengals need to win out and then need lots of help to avoid missing the postseason for the third straight year. Baltimore QB Lamar Jackson missed another practice Wednesday, but this time it was listed as a rest day for the two-time MVP. All eyes remain on him after his poor performance against the Bengals late last month. Cincinnati QB Joe Burrow looks to bounce back after two costly interceptions in last week's loss at Buffalo.

Ravens agree to a 3-year contract extension with DL Travis Jones

SUMMARY: The Baltimore Ravens have agreed to a three-year contract extension with defensive lineman Travis Jones. The Ravens announced the deal Thursday. The 26-year-old Jones has started 27 games for the Ravens since the start of last season. Jones became even more important to the interior of Baltimore’s defensive front when the Ravens lost Nnamdi Madubuike to a season-ending neck injury. Madubuike’s future is now unclear, but Baltimore is keeping Jones in the fold. Jones says he’d like to give his mother a new house.

FBC--College Sports-Collective Bargaining

Some athletic directors are open to collective bargaining agreements for college athletes

SUMMARY: Some athletic directors are starting to believe that collective bargaining agreements might be coming to college sports. The NCAA and its member schools have long said such labor deals are financially unfeasible. But with Congress failing to act on a key piece of legislation on Dec. 4, there was a growing sense of frustration among college sports executives who met this week at Sports Business Journal's Intercollegiate Athletics Forum in Las Vegas. Meanwhile, a group of state attorneys general are urging their schools not to sign an agreement sent out by the newly created College Sports Commission that would set the guidelines for new rules to pay players.

Mets front office taking heat with fan favorites Alonso, Díaz and Nimmo headed out of town

SUMMARY: Brandon Nimmo went first. Then it was Edwin Díaz and Pete Alonso on back-to-back days at baseball’s winter meetings. Three fan favorites headed out the door in 2 1/2 weeks — a powerful gut punch to angry New York Mets fans wondering what on earth the front office is thinking. As the club embarks on a major makeover, suffice to say owner Steve Cohen and president of baseball operations David Stearns are not the most popular couple in Queens right now.
