NTSB set to vote on probable cause of cargo ship crash into Baltimore bridge, causing its collapse
SUMMARY: The National Transportation Safety Board is set to vote on its findings into what caused a massive container ship to crash last year into Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge, which collapsed and killed six construction workers. The board’s vote Tuesday is scheduled a day after Maryland officials more than doubled the estimated cost to replace the bridge and added two years on to the projected completion date — to 2030. The new projected cost is between $4.3 billion and $5.2 billion, compared to the previous estimate of about $1.9 billion. The board is meeting in Washington to vote on a probable cause, safety recommendations and any changes to a previous report.

Kroger closing automated fulfillment centers as it tries to make delivery faster and cheaper
SUMMARY: Kroger said Tuesday it’s closing three automated fulfillment centers as part of an effort to make its delivery operations faster and more profitable. The nation’s largest grocer will close facilities in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin; Frederick, Maryland; and Groveland, Florida, in January. Kroger partnered with British online grocer Ocado in 2018 to build warehouses where robots would pick and pack grocery delivery orders. But Kroger said earlier this fall that for many orders, it's faster and cheaper to fulfill them in stores. Kroger is also expanding its partnerships with third party delivery companies, including DoorDash, Uber Eats and Instacart.

Judge overseeing US Rep. McIver's case tells prosecutors to turn over authorities' texts
SUMMARY: A federal judge overseeing the criminal case of U.S. Rep. LaMonica McIver has told Trump administration attorneys to turn over authorities’ text messages from her chaotic visit to an immigration detention center in New Jersey that led to charges accusing her of assaulting officers. U.S. District Judge Jamel Semper’s direction came nearly a month after he told authorities they needed to remove social media posts that could prejudice a jury. He also gave the government until next week to turn over additional video from McIver's May 9 visit to the Delaney Hall facility in Newark.

Visitors to a New Jersey zoo get to watch veterinarians treat the animals
SUMMARY: The latest attraction at one New Jersey zoo isn't a particular species. It's the opportunity to see veterinarians at work with their wide range of animal patients. The Turtle Back Zoo this year became one of the relatively few U.S. zoos that routinely give the public a view of veterinary care. There’s no exact count, but it’s perhaps a dozen or fewer of the 250 animal parks accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Some zoos see putting vets on view as a form of transparency. Turtle Back Zoo officials hope it will be educational and help visitors relate to animals and get involved in conservation. The zoo's upgraded veterinary hospital opened in April. Visitors can see into the room where animals get exams.

The LA County sheriff is investigating a new sex battery claim against Sean 'Diddy' Combs
SUMMARY: The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department says it’s investigating a new sexual battery allegation against hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is serving a four-year prison sentence on prostitution-related convictions. According to a police report, a male music producer and publicist said he was asked to come to a photo shoot in 2020 at a Los Angeles warehouse. The producer says Combs exposed himself and told him to perform a sex act. The accuser's name is redacted in the report. No. 18 Michigan expects to be without injured RB Justice Haynes vs. Maryland and No. 1 Ohio State
SUMMARY: No. 18 Michigan does not expect injured running back Justice Haynes to play this week at Maryland, or next week against top-ranked Ohio State. Wolverines coach Sherrone Moore said Monday that Haynes is probably out for the regular season. Haynes ran for 857 yards and 10 touchdowns in seven games this season. The Alabama transfer has not played since he had 26 carries for 152 yards with two touchdowns on Oct. 25 in a 31-20 win at Michigan State. He has been on Michigan’s sideline on a scooter, keeping weight off his right foot that was in a protective boot.

New York Jets bench struggling quarterback Justin Fields for Tyrod Taylor, AP source says
SUMMARY: A person with knowledge of the decision says the New York Jets will start Tyrod Taylor at quarterback over Justin Fields on Sunday. The move Monday by coach Aaron Glenn sends the embattled and struggling Fields to the sideline for the Jets, who are coming off a 27-14 loss to New England last Thursday night. Glenn said last week he would evaluate all positions, including quarterback, and then decided to make the switch to Taylor, according to the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity on Monday because the team didn’t announce the move. The Athletic first reported that the Jets were benching Fields in favor of Taylor.

New Nationals manager Blake Butera got his first job in the majors the day his first child was born
SUMMARY: Blake Butera will never forget the day he accepted the job as the manager of the Washington Nationals. That’s because it was the very same day that his wife, Caroline, gave birth to their first child, daughter Blair. Butera was introduced Monday at Nationals Park as Washington's eighth manager. Butera, 33, sat beside new president of baseball operations Paul Toboni, 35. They replaced skipper Dave Martinez and president and general manager Mike Rizzo, who are both in their 60s and were fired in July with the Nationals mired in their sixth consecutive losing season since winning the 2019 World Series.

Ravens came up with a creative solution in short yardage. That was the difference against Browns
SUMMARY: The Baltimore Ravens have followed a four-game losing streak with a four-game winning streak, but their trips to Minnesota and Cleveland the past two weekends have not been easy. Defensive coordinators Brian Flores and Jim Schwartz made it tough on Lamar Jackson and Baltimore's offense. Two interceptions off unlucky deflections gave the Browns a chance to pull off an upset. Mark Andrews’ 35-yard touchdown run on what was essentially a fake tush push lifted the Ravens to a 23-16 win over the Browns on Sunday. It was the second straight week Baltimore showed some extra creativity from that type of formation.

Jake Moody joins the Commanders off the Bears' practice squad to replace Matt Gay, AP source says
SUMMARY: A person with knowledge of the situation tells The Associated Press that the Washington Commanders have signed kicker Jake Moody off the Chicago Bears' practice squad to replace the released Matt Gay. The Commanders cut Gay on Monday, a day after he missed two field-goal attempts in a 16-13 overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins in Spain. Gay sent a 56-yard try wide right in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter that would have broken a 13-all tie. He also was off on a 51-yarder earlier in the game. The Commanders signed Gay to a contract with $4.35 million in guaranteed money in April.

Dan Quinn's defense was better than Joe Whitt Jr.'s, but the Washington Commanders keep losing
SUMMARY: Dan Quinn’s defense was better than Joe Whitt Jr.'s has been. Otherwise, the Washington Commanders made the sorts of mistakes — Marcus Mariota’s overtime interception, Matt Gay’s flubbed field-goal attempts, Mike Sainristil’s dropped punt and so on — that are contributing to a failure of a season. Their latest setback was a 16-13 OT loss to the Miami Dolphins on Sunday in Spain. A year after surprising everyone by going 12-5 and reaching the NFC title game, Washington is surprising folks again, just in a bad way, entering its bye week at 3-8 after six consecutive setbacks.

Giants are not making any staff changes this week, interim coach Mike Kafka says
SUMMARY: New York Giants interim coach Mike Kafka isn't planning to make any changes to his coaching staff after the team blew another late lead to lose its fifth consecutive game and drop to 2-9 this season. That means Shane Bowen remains in his role as defensive coordinator. After allowing 27 points to previously offensively challenged Green Bay, the Giants next visit the Detroit Lions on Sunday. Kafka said Jaxson Dart remains in concussion protocol, so the rookie quarterback’s status is unclear. Jameis Winston ran for a touchdown but also had a costly interception against the Packers.

Ryan Yarbrough agrees to $2.5 million, 1-year contract to stay with New York Yankees, AP source says

That's according to a person familiar with the negotiations who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Monday because the deal was subject to a successful physical examination. East-leading Devils face another extended stint without best player Jack Hughes
SUMMARY: The New Jersey Devils are atop the Eastern Conference six weeks into the NHL season, but now they have to play the next two months without top center and leading scorer Jack Hughes. They’ve been here before, after Hughes had season-ending shoulder surgery in March, but this time they might be better equipped to handle the 24-year-old’s absence as they have handled other injuries. On the road again: AP joins ACC commissioner Jim Phillips as he racks up miles hitting league events
SUMMARY: Atlantic Coast Conference commissioner Jim Phillips is regularly on the road each week for football games and other league sporting events. Eagles' defense has carried them to an 8-2 record while the offense struggles
SUMMARY: The Philadelphia Eagles are winning thanks to a standout defense that ranks among the best in franchise history. While the offense led by Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley and A.J. Brown has struggled, defensive standouts Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis and the newly acquired Jaelan Phillips are carrying the Eagles.
