More states are moving to redraw US House districts after Trump urged it for partisan gain
SUMMARY: A battle over congressional redistricting is playing out across the U.S. as states redraw House districts for partisan advantage. The push began when President Donald Trump urged Texas to reshape districts to favor Republicans. Since then, lawmakers in Democratic-led California and Republican-led Missouri have passed revised maps. Utah lawmakers endorsed a new map on Monday — though that was in response to a court ruling, not Trump's suggestion. The stakes are high, because Democrats need to gain just three seats in the 2026 elections to control the House. Other states such as Kansas, Indiana and Ohio also are considering or undertaking redistricting.

Sean 'Diddy' Combs' lawyers want him sent to a New Jersey federal prison that offers drug treatment
SUMMARY: Sean “Diddy” Combs’ lawyers want the hip-hop mogul sent to a low-security federal prison in New Jersey to serve his four-year, two-month prison sentence. They told a judge Monday that the facility’s drug treatment program will help him stay clean. Combs’ lawyers wrote a letter urging the judge presiding over his case, Arun Subramanian, to “strongly recommend” that the federal Bureau of Prisons place Combs at FCI Fort Dix, a massive prison located on the grounds of the joint military base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

Transportation secretary says government shutdown adds stress on air traffic controllers
SUMMARY: Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy says the government shutdown is putting more stress on air traffic controllers who already have an extremely stressful job, as well as threatening a program that small communities rely on to help subsidize airline service. Duffy says controllers are expected to continue working without a paycheck, so they are now worried about how to pay their bills in addition to worrying about keeping flights safe. The Transportation Department has been able to keep the air traffic controller academy open for now, but Duffy is still concerned about the potential impact on efforts to hire and train new controllers. The Essential Air Service program will run out of money Sunday.

State supreme court battles move to Pennsylvania, where 3 Democratic justices hope to keep seats
SUMMARY: Republicans and Democrats have begun pouring money into an election this November for the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. It's the latest example of how state high court races have become proxy battles for the biggest issues roiling the country, from abortion to voting rights to redistricting. Both parties are expected to spend millions of dollars on campaign flyers, digital and TV ads and get-out-the-vote efforts. At stake is whether the highest court in the most populous presidential swing state will keep its liberal majority. But overall spending in Pennsylvania is nowhere near the $100 million spent this year in Wisconsin — a record amount for a state supreme court race.

The Ravens' young replacements weren't ready when pressed into action against the Texans
SUMMARY: The Baltimore Ravens took the field severely undermanned last weekend, with quarterback Lamar Jackson and several other All-Pros and Pro Bowlers out. They’d said the right things about trying to overcome their injuries, but they looked like a decimated team from start to finish. Their 44-10 loss to Houston matched the most lopsided home defeat in franchise history. Baltimore wasn’t competitive on either side of the ball. Coach John Harbaugh sees Baltimore’s defensive problems as a matter of experience and execution, not effort. But the Ravens look like a team that's just trying to get to its Week 7 bye.

The 0-5 Jets are struggling to rebuild a foundation while frustrated fans have heard it all before
SUMMARY: The struggling New York Jets and their frustrated fans are on conflicting timelines. It’s Year 1 of a major rebuild for Aaron Glenn. It feels like forever for those still rooting for the team. The Jets are 0-5 and the NFL’s lone winless team after a dismal 37-22 loss to Dallas on Sunday. Glenn is the first Jets coach to begin his tenure with five losses. Fans’ patience has worn thin or, perhaps by now, completely worn out. All the losing and, most importantly, how these Jets are doing so, takes them back to that sinking feeling that has plagued them for years.

Trevor Lawrence's heroic touchdown caps NFL's record-tying week of double-digit comebacks
SUMMARY: Week 5 in the NFL was all about dramatic comebacks. Trevor Lawrence led the Jaguars to a thrilling 31-28 victory over the Chiefs, overcoming a 14-0 deficit. The Chiefs, who excelled in close games last season, have struggled this year. The Eagles, Cardinals, Dolphins, Giants, and Chargers also let double-digit leads slip away. This ties an NFL record for most double-digit comebacks in a single week. The Broncos, Titans, Panthers, Saints, and Commanders all rallied from big deficits to win. The weekend started with San Francisco's overtime win against the Rams when members of the Colorado Avalanche donned Rams uniforms.

Jerry Jones apologizes for obscene gesture toward fans he says was inadvertent
SUMMARY: Dallas owner Jerry Jones says his obscene gesture toward fans at MetLife Stadium late in a 37-22 victory over the New York Jets was inadvertent and that he intended a “thumbs up” for celebrating Cowboys fans. Jones was caught on a video that went viral smiling widely as he pointed toward fans before briefly flashing the gesture Sunday. He said on his radio show Tuesday he was interacting with Dallas fans, not Jets fans. Jones called the gesture “inadvertent” and that he “put up the wrong show on the hand.”

Harrison Bader out of Phillies' Game 2 starting lineup vs Dodgers because of groin injury
SUMMARY: Philadelphia Phillies center fielder Harrison Bader is out of the starting lineup for Game 2 of the National League Division Series because of a groin injury. Bader was injured running the bases in the Phillies' Game 1 loss. On Monday, manager Rob Thomson said imaging showed no major tear or strain in Bader's groin. There is a possibility he could pinch hit against the Los Angeles Dodgers. With Bader sidelined, the Phillies started Brandon Marsh in center field and right-handed hitters Otto Kemp in left field and Nick Castellanos in right against Dodgers lefty Blake Snell.

Saquon Barkley struggles to duplicate his 2,000-yard rushing season for defending champion Eagles
SUMMARY: Saquon Barkley seems to be struggling to find his rhythm this season. Despite being the 2024 AP Offensive Player of the Year, he has managed only 267 yards rushing through five games. On Sunday, he ran for just 30 yards in the Eagles' 21-17 loss to Denver. Barkley returns to face the New York Giants on Thursday, hoping to spark his season. Phillies' high-priced stars Harper, Schwarber, Turner flop in NLDS and face elimination in Game 3
SUMMARY: Bryce Harper says the Phillies need to "flip the script" after struggling in the NL Division Series against the Dodgers. Harper, Trea Turner, Kyle Schwarber, and others have been underperforming, going 5-for-35 with 13 strikeouts and no home runs through two games. The Phillies lost 4-3 on Monday, putting them one loss away from elimination. Manager Rob Thomson believes the players are trying too hard instead of focusing on base hits. With ace Zack Wheeler sidelined, Aaron Nola will start Game 3. The Phillies have lost five of their last six playoff games at home.

SUMMARY: Blake Snell allowed one hit in six shutout innings, striking out nine, and the Los Angeles Dodgers barely turned back Philadelphia’s late rally for a 4-3 victory over the Phillies in Game 2 of their NL Division Series. NFL kickers are making more 60-yard field goals than ever and the balls could be part of the reason
SUMMARY: NFL kickers are now making long-distance field goals more frequently, with many kicks exceeding 60 yards. This shift has sparked questions about whether the balls are altered. A rule change this year allows teams to prepare kicking balls before game day, leading to more consistent performance. There have already been four kicks of at least 60 yards this season, close to the single-season record. The new rules have also impacted punts, with average distances increasing. Kickers say the broken-in balls add a few extra yards to their kicks.

ACC looks to have a wide-open race for the spotlight with few returning all-conference performers
SUMMARY: The Atlantic Coast Conference will have a different look among its headlining women's basketball players. That's because 11 of the 15 players who earned all-ACC first-team honors last year are gone. That opens the door for new players to emerge in the spotlight. The league returns two-time Associated Press first-team All-American Hannah Hidalgo at Notre Dame. It returns first-team players in N.C. State's Zoe Brooks, Duke's Toby Fournier and Virginia's Kymora Johnson as first-teamers. But there were losses like former Notre Dame star Olivia Miles and national scoring leader Ta'Niya Latson at Florida State to transfers.

Hall of Famer Roy Halladay threw postseason no-hitter 15 years ago. His sons try to honor his legacy
SUMMARY: Braden Halladay has thrown a first pitch at the same ballpark where his father, Roy Halladay, made history with a playoff no-hitter. Roy Halladay, a future Hall of Famer, already had achieved a perfect game for the Phillies in May 2010. Braden and his brother, Ryan shared memories of their father eight years after his tragic death. They received a warm ovation Monday night during a tribute on the 15th anniversary of Roy's iconic no-hitter in October 2010.
