US--Harvard Classmates-Ponzi Scheme

Harvard Business School graduate arrested on charges he cheated fellow alums out of over $4 million

SUMMARY: Federal authorities have arrested a Harvard Business School graduate on charges that he swindled fellow alumni of the prestigious school out of more than $4 million. U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton in Manhattan announced fraud charges Thursday against Vladimir Artamonov after he was arrested in Elkridge, Maryland. He said Artamonov promised low-risk investments with high returns. The head of New York's FBI office said Artamonov exploited the prestige of Harvard to procure investments before blowing the money on bad investments and personal expenses. Messages seeking comment were sent to Artamonov's lawyer and Harvard.

Prosecutor says stalking suspect ambushed Pennsylvania police officers, killing 3

SUMMARY: A prosecutor says a suspected stalker armed with a rifle hid inside his ex-girlfriend’s home in Pennsylvania and ambushed police officers who came to arrest him, killing three of them. Police arriving at the scene at about 2:10 p.m. Wednesday noticed the door to the home was unlocked even though the ex-girlfriend and her mother had locked it before leaving the property. York County District Attorney Tim Barker said during a news conference Thursday that the officers opened the door and the suspect immediately opened fire on them using an AR-style rifle with a suppressor. He says the suspect fired multiple rounds at the four officers at the door, killing three of them.

US--Sexual Misconduct-Gary Busey

Gary Busey gets probation for sexual offense at 2022 horror convention

SUMMARY: Actor Gary Busey has been sentenced to two years probation for a sexual offense stemming from an appearance at a 2022 horror convention in New Jersey, according to court records. The sentence was handed down Thursday during a virtual hearing in state court in Camden. Busey didn't speak during the hearing. The 81-year-old “Buddy Holly” star had pleaded guilty in July to a single count of criminal sexual contact for touching a woman’s buttocks “over clothing during an 8-10 second photo op.” The actor had been accused of inappropriately touching at least three women at the Monster-Mania Convention at the Doubletree Hotel in Cherry Hill, a South Jersey town and suburb of Philadelphia.

HKN--Capitals-Ovechkin

Alex Ovechkin just turned 40. The Washington star's future past this season remains uncertain

SUMMARY: Alex Ovechkin remains reticent about his future. He spoke with reporters at the Washington Capitals' media day on Thursday. A day after his 40th birthday, the NHL’s career goal-scoring leader said he hasn’t been thinking much about what happens after this, his 21st season. That wait-and-see approach seems fine with the Capitals as Ovechkin enters the last season of his contract. The Russian star scored 44 goals last season despite a broken leg that limited him to 65 games. His pursuit of Wayne Gretzky’s mark of 894 goals was a highlight of the NHL season, and Ovechkin enters the 2025-26 campaign three shy of 900.

BBO--Yankees-Orioles

Max Fried strikes out 13, notches 18th win as Yankees blank Orioles 7-0

SUMMARY: Max Fried struck out 13 over seven innings while earning his major league-leading 18th victory, and the surging New York Yankees blanked the Baltimore Orioles 7-0. The victory on Thursday night moved the Yankees within three games of first-place Toronto in the AL East. Both teams have nine games left. New York has gone 17-7 since Aug. 23 to climb out of third place in the division and take charge of the AL wild card. Yankees ace Fried makes winning fun for manager Boone and NY teammates

SUMMARY: There’s nothing like watching Max Fried pitch to alleviate some of the angst and pressure associated with managing the New York Yankees in the midst of a pennant race. Aaron Boone had a blast Thursday night watching Fried mow down the Baltimore Orioles in a 7-0 rout. The left-hander struck out 13 and allowed only three singles over seven sparkling innings. Boone said of Fried: “I just love watching him pitch.” The 13 strikeouts tied a career high and the 18 wins marked a career best for the former Atlanta standout, who signed an eight-year, $218 million contract with New York as a free agent in December.

HKN--Training Camp Absences

From Devils' Luke Hughes to Ducks' Mason McTavish, a few NHL unsigned restricted free agents remain

SUMMARY: New Jersey Devils camp opens without unsigned restricted free agent Luke Hughes, a brother of top center Jack, and his absence isn’t the only one around the NHL. The Nashville Predators are in a similar spot with Luke Evangelista and the Anaheim Ducks with Mason McTavish, who’s skating with his former junior team across the border in Canada. The start of the season is still more than two weeks away, but young players missing practice time still has meaning and could disrupt their development.

Rams defense to face Eagles' controversial 'tush push' play

SUMMARY: The Los Angeles Rams face the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. Both teams are undefeated this season. The Rams have a strong defense, allowing just 14 points per game. Quarterback Matthew Stafford has been efficient, nearing a career milestone in touchdown passes. The Eagles rely on their unique "tush push" play, which helped them win against the Chiefs. Jalen Hurts excels in rushing touchdowns, tied for the most in the league. Injuries could impact both teams, with key players such as Dallas Goedert and Ahkello Witherspoon affected. FBN--Steelers-Patriots Preview

Steelers, Aaron Rodgers look to change recent losing history at Patriots

SUMMARY: The Pittsburgh Steelers have struggled in New England since 2002, winning only once there in seven games. Aaron Rodgers is in his first season with the Steelers, but has also faced challenges in New England, where he's 0-2. The setbacks, which include a 25-22 loss while with the Jets last season are still vivid in Rodgers’ mind. This may be his best opportunity to get a win yet. The Patriots' defense ranks last in the NFL against the pass through the first two weeks. But New England could get back its best pass defender this week, with cornerback Christian Gonzalez practicing for the first time since suffering a hamstring injury during training camp.

Jared Verse will bring the same boisterous trash talk when Rams' pass rusher returns to Philadelphia

SUMMARY: Los Angeles Rams second-year outside linebacker Jared Verse is arguably the team leader in both pass-rush ability and willingness to talk trash. The latter trait got the Defensive Rookie of the Year in trouble with Philadelphia Eagles fans ahead of January's NFC divisional round playoff game, where the Rams' season ended in a 28-22 loss. Verse doesn't have a sack or tackle for loss through two games this year, but his presence is allowing teammates on an improving defensive front to make negative plays.

That led to speculation Crosby might one day ask for a trade while the Penguins retool. The three-time Stanley Cup champion says he never wants to leave Pittsburgh.
