Supreme Court work goes on with 16 cases to decide, including birthright citizenship
SUMMARY: The Supreme Court is in the homestretch of a term that has lately been dominated by the Trump administration’s emergency appeals of lower court orders seeking to slow President Donald Trump’s efforts to remake the federal government. But the justices also have 16 cases to resolve that were argued between December and mid-May. One of the argued cases was an emergency appeal: the administration’s bid to be allowed to enforce Trump’s executive order denying birthright citizenship to U.S.-born children of parents who are in the country illegally. The court typically aims to finish its work by the end of June.

10 years after Charleston church massacre, faith leaders lament that the country hasn't changed
SUMMARY: Mother Emanuel AME church made an ecumenical gesture for the commemoration of a racist shooting that killed nine of its Black members 10 years ago on Tuesday. The church invited members of a Pittsburgh synagogue where 11 were killed in an antisemitic shooting to join them in South Carolina. Leaders of both denominations said at the service that much more needs to be done to fight hatred in the U.S. They lamented that the country in some ways appears to have moved backward since the 2015 Charleston church massacre. But the leaders said that if the targets of hatred come together, they can overcome the country's scary turn.

Nippon Steel finalizes $15B takeover of US Steel after sealing national security agreement
SUMMARY: Nippon Steel and U.S. Steel say they've finalized their “historic partnership,” a year-and-a-half after the Japanese company first proposed its deal to buy the iconic American steelmaker for nearly $15 billion. The bid by Nippon Steel was buffeted by national security concerns and presidential politics, delaying the transaction for more than a year after U.S. Steel shareholders approved it. It also forced Nippon Steel to expand the deal, including giving the federal government a say in some matters. The combined company will become the world’s fourth-largest steelmaker, and bring what analysts say is Nippon Steel’s top-notch technology to U.S. Steel. In exchange, Nippon Steel gets access to a robust U.S. steel market.

In Andrews’ defense, Jackson was quick to mention the two turnovers he committed during the first half that helped Buffalo take a 21-10 halftime lead.

SUMMARY: The Baltimore Orioles said Tuesday night that 19-year-old minor league infielder Luis Guevara has died. The organization didn’t provide a cause of death. Guevara was involved in a jet ski crash Sunday in Sarasota, Florida, according to MLB.com. The team’s Florida Complex League games were postponed Monday and Tuesday. SUMMARY: Two people familiar with discussions tell The Associated Press that Boston Fleet coach Courtney Kessel is in final discussions to take over as the women’s hockey coach at Princeton. The people spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity because Kessel’s hiring is not complete and the process could take weeks to finalize. Giants' Thibodeaux aiming to bounce back, get double-digit sacks every year and chase the NFL record
SUMMARY: Kayvon Thibodeaux expects a lot more from himself this season. Especially sacks. The New York Giants edge rusher had just 5 1/2 of them last season after setting a career best with 11 1/2 in 2023. Thibodeaux missed five games with a broken bone in his left wrist, but he believes he can consistently get double-digit sack totals. The fifth overall pick in the 2022 draft also is aiming for the NFL's single-season sacks record. Thibodeaux said after the Giants' first practice of minicamp that he watched his plays from last season snap by snap and recognized he should have been a lot better but didn't finish plays enough.

Weaver (hamstring) nears Yankees return with simulated game
SUMMARY: Yankees reliever Luke Weaver has thrown a simulated game and is getting closer to rejoining New York’s bullpen. Weaver, who strained his left hamstring June 1 while warming up at Dodger Stadium, faced teammates J.C. Escarra and Oswald Peraza before the Yankees played the Los Angeles Angels. New York manager Aaron Boone says Weaver “kind of simulated four outs” and looked great. The team initially expected Weaver to miss four to six weeks, but the right-hander said any pain in the hamstring disappeared within days of the injury. He had three side sessions before Tuesday’s simulated game.

Yankees searching for answers after 3rd straight shutout
SUMMARY: The New York Yankees’ offense is drifting toward uncharted territory — and not in a good way. The team tied a franchise record by getting shut out for the third straight game Tuesday night, when the Yankees went 0 for 10 with runners on base in a 4-0 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. The Yankees have been blanked in three consecutive games seven times in their 123-year history — but only three times in the last 50 years, most recently from Sept. 22-24, 2016. NBA mock draft: Rutgers' Ace Bailey may slip to late in NBA draft lottery after skipping workouts
SUMMARY: Ace Bailey has been pegged as a can’t-miss prospect, an athletic 6-foot-8 forward who can score like few players in this year’s NBA draft. His decisions leading up to the draft may send him slipping further down the lottery. Once projected as a top-three pick, Bailey could find himself waiting a bit longer than his Rutgers’ teammate Dylan Harper after opting to decline workouts with several teams within his projected draft range. Bailey might not see a freefall like Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the NFL draft, but his actions could be causing doubt among NBA executives heading into Wednesday’s draft.

J.J. Spaun takes a long road of hard work to become US Open champion
SUMMARY: One of the early memories of J.J. Spaun was his rookie year when he was too afraid to meet Tiger Woods. Now their names are together on the U.S. Open trophy. Spaun didn't come out of nowhere. He was already having a good year. Now it's a great one that has moved him into the top 10 in the world and No. 3 in the Ryder Cup standings. His memories are driving the 17th green and making a 65-foot putt in his birdie-birdie finish at Oakmont. His story is more about grit and resilience to become a major champion.

A caddie at heart, Bones Mackay makes sure to get the 18th flag to Spaun's bagman
SUMMARY: Jim “Bones” Mackay is now with NBC Sports as an on-course reporter. But he'll always consider himself a caddie. That much was evident in the final minutes of the U.S. Open. Mackay was reporting from the final group. J.J. Spaun was in the group ahead and clinched the victory. Mackay knows that a caddie's trophy is the 18th pin flag. But there was one group still to play. So Mackay made sure to remove the pin when it was over and take it to Mark Carens. He's the caddie for Spaun. It was a classy gesture only a caddie would know.
