SALEM, NH - Mr. Michael Valenkas passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Haverhill on May 8, 1956, son of the late Michael Valenkas and Sandra J. (Chase) Valenkas of Haverhill. In his youth, Michael enjoyed motorcycles and fast cars. You could always find him at the beach. He was in the first graduating class at Whittier Vocational High School. In 1975, Michael Valenkas enlisted in the United States Air Force, and served for twenty years. While in the service, Michael was stationed at multiple countries around the world, including Turkey, and Guam. After retiring from the Air Force, Michael began a new 16 year career in the fire sprinkler industry. His last employment was with Xcel Fire Protection, which he thoroughly enjoyed. At home, Michael was always a family man. His great sense of humor could always bring everyone closer together. He loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Over time Michael's health declined, and daily projects proved to be challenging. So to stay busy, he took up a hobby in extreme couponing. Michael will be remembered as a very respectable, caring man, and will be thoroughly missed. In addition to his mother, Michael is survived by his wife of 33 years, Barbara M. (Shattuck) of Salem, N.H.; his two daughters, Samantha and her husband Aaron Clendaniel of Springvale, Maine and Christina and her husband Ryan Hays of Felton, Del.; three grandchildren, Victoria, Sydney and Colin Michael Clendaniel; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, including his special uncle Bill Chase of Bradford. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Service with full military honors at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Bradford Funeral Home, 210 South Main St. Bradford. Interment will follow in the Lithuanian Cemetery, Bradford. Calling hours at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Bradford Funeral Home will be on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012 from 2 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. BOX 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) Condolences to his family may be made at www.farmerfuneralhomes.com
