Michael Lee Mendes, 17 FEDERALSBURG, Md. - Michael Lee Mendes passed away on Friday, April 30, 2010, near Preston, Maryland. He was 17. He was born on Sept. 19, 1992, the son of Franklin Joseph Mendes Sr. of Sandtown, and Frances Reed McDermott of Federalsburg, Md. He was a Senior at Colonel Richardson High School. After graduation, he was scheduled to attend Wyo Tech. He enjoyed helping people and fixing anything that he could. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his stepmother, Robin Mendes of Sandtown; two brothers, Franklin J. Mendes, Jr. of Federalsburg, Jordan Mendes of Sandtown; three sisters, Rebecca Lynn Mendes of Henderson and her fiancee Edward Steele, Kayla Marie Reed of Federalsburg, and Katie Kurtz of Sandtown; maternal grandfather, Louis Reed of Federalsburg; and paternal grandparents Frank and Helen Mendes of Henderson, Md., and Robert Jr. and Barbara Challies of Sandtown. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Bonnie Reed. Funeral services will be noon, Saturday, May 8, at the Framptom Funeral Home in Federalsburg with the Rev. Mike Truitt officiating. Interment will follow in Bloomery Cemetery in Smithville. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service.
