Michael A. 'Uncle Mike' Sarro HOUSTON - Michael A. "Uncle Mike" Sarro, of Houston, passed away Friday, April 2, 2010, at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford surrounded by his loving family. He was 84. Mr. Sarro was born on Nov. 26, 1925, in Long Branch, N.J., son of the late Tito and Josephine Sarro. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving his country aboard the USS Nicholson during World War II. Mr. Sarro, along with his brother Peter, owned and operated Sarro Oil Company in Lindenhurst, N.Y., for many years. Mike retired and relocated to Houston in 1982. He was a member and past Master of the Masonic Lodge in Amityville, N.Y.; a member of the Milford Moose Lodge #2316, the American Legion Post #7 in Harrington and the Milford Senior Center. Mike enjoyed playing cards with an assortment of good friends, watching the stock market, gardening and most importantly his grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Sarro was preceded in death by his brother, Peter Sarro. He is survived by two sons, James W. Sarro and his wife Deborah of New York and Michael Sarro and his partner Sandra of Florida; two daughters, Joanne Sarro Garner and her husband Clifford of New Jersey and Florida and Claudia Sarro Pedersen and her husband William of New York; two brothers, Benedict Sarro and his wife Jean of Milford and Louis Gene Sarro of California; his grandchildren to whom he was lovingly known as Nonno (grandfather); Mark and Jocelyn Simon of New Jersey and Grace and Natalie Jo Pedersen of New York; nieces and nephews; Christina Sarro and her partner William Tribbitt of Milford, Benedict Sarro, Jr. and his wife Deanna of New Hampshire, Kelly Sarro and her fiancee Chuck Bednarek of Harrington and Richard Sarro of Washington, DC; a great nephew, Darius Sarro of Harrington and many wonderful friends, in particular, Tom Barnard. A celebration of life service will be announced at a later date. The family has requested memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
