MILLSBORO - Melvin R. Elliott passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at his home in Millsboro. Melvin was born in Georgetown on November 2, 1932. He graduated from Millsboro High School and was a graduate of Goldy Beacon College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy He moved to Washington, DC where he worked for the magazine U.S. News and World Reports and he had the honor of recording President Eisenhower's speech. He later moved to Florida where he designed greeting cards and designed a few for Gibson Greeting. Due to illness, he moved back to Delaware where he spent the rest of his life. He enjoyed reading, watching old movies, playing his guitar and singing, taking long walks and going on outings with his family. He was a wonderful brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, Greensbury and Mary Elliott and 4 siblings, Hazel Workman, Crawford Elliott, Mary Louise Moore, and Greensbury Elliott, Jr. He is survived by his 5 siblings, Jeanette Melson of Dagsboro, Doris Tubman of Selbyville, DE, Norma Lee Esque and her husband Harold of Port Orange, FL, Ruth E. Scott of Georgetown and Robert A. Elliott and his wife, Barbara of Milford and other numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at 11:00 am at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: American Heart Assoc., P.O. Box 15120, Chicago, IL 60693-5120 or Millsboro Public Library, 217 W. State St., Millsboro, DE 19966. Arrangements handled by Short Funeral Services, Georgetown.
