Melvin Lee Freidel

Freidel, 70 Clayton - Melvin Lee "Mel" Freidel passed away on September 2, 2014 at his home. Mr. Freidel was born on May 11, 1944 in Yankton, SD, the son of the late Charlie and Rose Freidel. Mel served his country with honors in the US Air Force as an Aviation Mechanic. He then went on to work for Atlantic Aviation, now known as Dessault Falcon at New Castle Airport, where he retired after 45 years of service as an Aviation Mechanic. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and bowling in his spare time. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dwayne; and great grandson, Tyler Harmon-Stanton. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his children, Sandra Dilks (Bryan) of Clayton, Donald Alexander, Sr. (Lisa) of Smyrna, Kelly Bivins of Smyrna and Lee Pinder of Smyrna; four grandchildren, Melissa Stanton, Carrie Stanton, Laura Bivins and Matthew Bivins (Krista); six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Machacek (Vern) of Rapid City, S.D. and Ruth Steffen (Bernie) of Wakonda, S.D. A viewing will be held on Monday, September 8, 2014 at 10 a.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St. in Smyrna. Funeral services will begin at 11 am. Interment will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE at a later date. Condolences may be sent by visiting www.fariesfuneralhome.com.
