Med students dive into clinical training at Bayhealth

DOVER — Now in its third year of hosting cohorts of students from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Bayhealth recently welcomed this year’s group at a meet-and-greet breakfast.

The 15 new and 10 returning students had the opportunity to get to know Bayhealth leadership and staff members before beginning their year of clinical training under the guidance of experienced physicians.

During their time at Bayhealth's Kent and Sussex campuses, the PCOM students will complete 11 core rotations, each lasting one month. These specialty rotations involve following a Bayhealth physician for four weeks, allowing the students to gain hands-on learning and broaden their skill set in environments with patients.

“We are thrilled to welcome a new group of talented medical students to our Bayhealth campuses. As they explore a range of specialties and learn from our expert medical staff, they will hone their expertise in providing thorough and compassionate patient care,” said Dr. Joseph Rubacky, chair of the Undergraduate Medical Education program.

"We want these students to feel fulfilled by their growth here and connect with our community. It is also our hope that they’ll want to continue their Graduate Medical Education training at Bayhealth and (take) care of our local residents through one of our newly launched residency programs in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and General Surgery.”
