issued a Flood Watch for the following rivers in West Virginia...

Maryland...

Potomac River at Harpers Ferry affecting Washington and Jefferson

Counties.

For the Potomac River...including Paw Paw, Hancock, Shepherdstown,

Harpers Ferry, Point of Rocks, Edwards Ferry, Little Falls...

flooding is possible.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If you are in the watch area, remain alert to possible flooding.

Harpers Ferry floods.

- At 3:45 PM EDT Tuesday the stage was 3.3 feet, or 14.7 feet

below flood stage.

- Forecast...Flood stage may be reached early Thursday morning.

- Flood stage is 18.0 feet.

affect homes on the Loudoun County side of the river near Broad

Run in Sterling.

- Flood stage is 15.0 feet.

* WHEN...From Wednesday afternoon to early Thursday afternoon.

- At 3:15 PM EDT Tuesday the stage was 5.6 feet, or 19.4 feet

- Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage

early tomorrow afternoon to a crest of 26.5 feet tomorrow

evening. It will then fall below flood stage Thursday

morning.

- Flood stage is 25.0 feet.

- Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of

26.6 feet on 05/09/1960.

* WHAT...Moderate flooding is forecast.

* WHEN...From this evening to late Thursday morning.

* IMPACTS...At 22.0 feet, Water reaches a substation in Wiley Ford,

West Virginia. Water also approaches an outbuilding in Wiley Ford,

and portions of Kelly Road in Cumberland and Canal Road in North

Branch.

- At 3:45 PM EDT Tuesday the stage was 10.2 feet, or 6.8 feet

- Forecast...The river will rise above flood stage late this

evening to 22.5 feet tomorrow morning. It will then fall to

flood stage tomorrow evening. It will rise to 17.6 feet early

Thursday morning. It will then fall below flood stage early

Thursday morning.

- Flood stage is 17.0 feet.

afternoon. It will then fall below flood stage Thursday

* WHAT...Moderate flooding is occurring. This approaches the flood

of record.

* WHERE...Georges Creek at Westernport.

* WHEN...From this afternoon until further notice.

* IMPACTS...At 12.0 feet, Numerous buildings and roads in the town

of Westernport, and points upstream, are flooded. Water reaches

both railroad bridges upstream of Westernport, as well as multiple

bridges in Westernport.

- At 3:45 PM EDT Tuesday the stage was 12.0 feet, or 4.0 feet

above flood stage.

- Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours

ending at 3:45 PM EDT Tuesday was 12.0 feet.

- Forecast...No forecast is available for this location.

- Flood stage is 8.0 feet.
