Mayer: Are our cities really crumbling?

Posted

There are some who actually believe that Mr. Donald Trump is sending National Guard units into some of our cities to combat the rampant lawlessness run amok around their terrified citizens. It does seem odd that these places are run by Democrats, but I’m sure that is coincidental.

So, why do folks stay in these cities? I thought one reason was that they are poor and can’t afford to move. But I did a quick Google search and found that the average monthly rent for a one-bedroom apartment in Chicago is $1,960. In Washington, D.C., it’s $2,300 (some say $2,700), and in New York City, it’s $4,035.

That seems like a lot to live in a hellhole.
