DOVER — A Maryland man was indicted Monday on a first-degree vehicular assault charge following investigation into a homecoming weekend crash on the Delaware State University campus last fall, according to documents.

Greg E. Ligon Jr., of Mitchellville, was also charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and six counts of second-degree vehicular assault in a Grand Jury indictment in Kent County. Alleged violations also included failure to have minimum insurance and failure to have registration card in possession.

According to the Dover Police Department on Oct. 24, 2015, Mr. Ligon, 28, reportedly lost control of a Mercedes Benz sedan while attempting to park in a fraternity picnic area. Authorities said the vehicle struck seven people, including a 21-year-old female who was pinned against a tree and suffered a broken back and ribs, and multiple internal injuries.

The female with the most serious injuries was flown to Christiana Hospital for treatment, police said, while six other persons — five between 20 to 23 years old and another 51 — were treated for various injuries at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital in Dover.

DSU canceled the remainder of all on-campus homecoming activities after the incident at approximately 7:29 p.m.

Mr. Ligon formerly played football at DSU, according to the school’s website.

Deputy Attorney General Greg Babowal represented Delaware Department of Justice in indictment papers.
