Mary Swetland

CAMDEN - Mary (Meluney) Swetland passed away Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, in the Capitol Nursing Home. She was 83. Mary was born on Sept. 22, 1928, in Seaford, daughter of the late William and Effice (Johnson) Meluney. She was the welcome wagon lady and district manager for four years. She then opened her own consignment shop, The Nearly New Boutique which she enjoyed for 21 years. She retired in 1996 and was an avid reader and loved caring for her cats and birds. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Swetland; two sisters, Grace Trivets, Helen Russell; and two brothers, Paul and Francis Meluney. She is survived by two sons, Donald Edwin Swetland of Dover, and David Lee Swetland and his wife Candace of Camden; a daughter, Mary Lisa Swetland-Daub and her husband Galen of Camden; four grandchildren, Keith Swetland of Florida, Brian Swetland, James Swetland, and Alexandra Swetland, all of Dover; and sister, Hester White of Seaford. Services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may gather two hours earlier. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Kent County S.P.C.A., 32 Shelter Circle, Camden, DE 19934.
