DOVER - Mary S. Hinkle, age 65, of Dover, died Monday morning, Aug. 30, 2010, in her home. She was born Jan. 9, 1945, in Montclair, N.J., daughter of the late Robert and Ruth Sanderson. Mary was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a 1963 graduate of Caesar Rodney High School. She was a talented hairdresser for many years before making the sacrifice to be a stay at home mom. Once her children were out of elementary school she began a successful custom drapery business. Mary had been very active in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program and loved having a "little sister." Mary enjoyed gardening, sewing, crafting, reading, and spending time with family, friends, and her cats. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, L. Keith Hinkle; daughter, Betsy Gant and her husband Keith; son, Tom Hinkle and his wife Leighann; step-daughter, Anne Spinks and her husband Terry; and four grandchildren, Erica Gant, Brody Hinkle, Erin Spinks, and Lane Spinks; brother, Robert Sanderson and his wife Cindy; nephew, Sean Sanderson and his wife Lisa; nephew, Matt Sanderson and his wife Jen; Uncle Bob Kirkpatrick; and cousin, Karen Williamson. Anyone who knew Mary knows how important her friends were. It must be noted that she is survived by her lifelong friends, Maureen Wootten, Jeanette Lighthall, and Linda Rosco. A service of celebration and remembrance of Mary's life will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 4, at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, where friends may gather one hour earlier. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to the MS Society, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Delaware Chapter, Two Mill Road, Suite 106, Wilmington, DE 19806. Letters of condolences can be sent via www.pippinfuneralhome.com.
