ROARING SPRING, Pa. -- Mary Madalyn Helsel, age 84, a resident at The Village at Morrisons Cove, formerly of Roaring Spring and Delaware, died Saturday afternoon, Nov. 1, 2008, at The Village. She was born in Hollidaysburg, daughter of the late John E. and Ann (Ferguson) McCoy. She married Dean H. Helsel on Oct. 20, 1946, in St. Michael's Church, Hollidaysburg. Mr. Helsel died June 4, 2007. She is survived by two daughters and two sons, Margaret Ann Foor and husband Gary of Jacksonville, Fla., Barbara Jean White of Roaring Spring, Terry Dean Helsel and wife Lisa of Harrington, Del., and John Charles Helsel and wife Karen of Felton, Del.; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Carol Boland and husband Joe of Hollidaysburg; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jayne Tome; and a brother, Elwood McCoy. She was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Harrington, where she was a member of the Cathedral Choir, and attended Christ Church, Roaring Spring. Mrs. Helsel previously worked as a nurse at Nason Hospital, Roaring Spring, a private duty nurse at Mercy Hospital, Altoona, and office nurse for Dr. Carl Myers. She was a 1942 graduate of Hollidaysburg High School. She enjoyed volunteering and playing bingo at the Senior Center in Harrington. Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. today in the Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home, Roaring Spring. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Christ Church, Roaring Spring, by Pastor Joel Kletzing. Interment will be made in Alto-Reste Park, Altoona. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Christ Church, Roaring Spring.
