Miller, 81 FREDERICA - Dr. Mary Emily Miller died suddenly, late Friday night on April 17, 2015 in her home in Frederica. She was 81. Dr. Miller, Mary Emily or M.E. as many of her friends called her, was a steadfast and compassionate friend. She gave freely of her many talents to help others. Among other things she provided transportation to doctor appointments, church, seminars festival events and to exchange crew for the Kalmar Nyckel when she was in neighboring ports. After she retired from teaching at Salem State College in Salem, MA, M.E, returned to Delaware. She taught for the University of Delaware's Life-Long Learning in Sussex County for the joy of sharing her extensive knowledge of maritime history. Mary Emily was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution and recently received recognition for more than 300 years of her family's ownership of the farm. Her farm became the 3rd oldest working farm in the country. She was the first woman inducted into the Delaware Maritime Hall of Fame. This past March 26, Mary Emily was recognized by The Haley Museum and Library for a quarter of a century of participation in the Research Seminars. In June, M.E. will receive an award for from the American Association of University Professors to mark 50 year membership. We will have a service to celebrate M.E.'s amazing life on June 27, 2015 at 2 p.m., at the Frederica Senior Center. Everyone who knew M.E. and shared her life is welcome.
