Mary E. Hughes

DOVER - Mary E. Saunders Hughes, of Dover, went home to be with the Lord, on Monday June 20, 2011. She was 81. Mrs. Hughes was born Sept. 18, 1929, in Salem, N.J., to the late Elmer Saunders and Harriett Gould Saunders. She and her husband John have lived in Delaware for 58 years, the last six and half Mrs. Hughes has been in the Capital Rehab Center in Dover. She was a homemaker who loved to cook, clean, go to church and read her bible. Most of all she loved God. Mrs. Hughes enjoyed spending time with her family especially her grandchildren. In addition to her family she was preceded in death by daughter, Janet Durham Kelly; brothers, Stanley, Elmer, Herman and Edwards Saunders; sisters, Margaret Pierce and Ida Ridgeway. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, John H. Hughes of Dover; daughters, Harriett Seeney and her husband Roland of Bridgeton, N.J., Diane Hughes of Dover; sons, Norris Durham of Georgetown and Jerry Hughes of South Carolina, Larry Hughes of Dover; sisters, Deleatha Mosley of Bridgeton, N.J., Pauline Mosley of Atlantic City, N.J., and Joyce Chambers and her husband Leonard of Waco, Tex.; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 12 noon, Saturday June 25, 2011 at the Immanuel Union United Methodist Church, 756 Main St., Cheswold. Friends may call one hour prior. Interment at the church cemetery. Letters of condolence may be sent, and guestbook signed at torbertfuneral.com.
