MAGNOLIA - Mary Carey Smalley, of Magnolia, died Sunday, March 25, 2012, at home surrounded by her family. She was 44. Mary was born Feb. 23, 1968, in Dover, to Henry F. Carey and the late Muriel Coffin Carey. She graduated from Wesley College with a nursing degree and worked for 22 years at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital and most recently for the Bay Health Milford. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family, being outdoors, at the beach, poolside, skiing, and target shooting. She was a member of the Republican Woman's Club and attended Calvary Assembly of God Church in Dover. She is survived by her husband of 16 years, James E. Smalley; sons, Nate Smalley at home, Ethan Smalley of Smyrna, Evan and Christian Smalley, both at home; granddaughter, Sophia Finfinger; sisters, Debbie Carey of Dover, Denise Carey of West Palm Beach, Fla., Janet Smith and her husband Ralph of Bear, and Jamie Basler and her husband Steve of Dover; her father, Henry Carey and his wife Charlotte of Dover; in-laws, Donald and Patsy Smalley of Kansas City, Mo.; sister and brother-in-law, Tim and Tricia Sanders of Blaine, Minn.; nephews, Roy Bryant III of Hartly, Ben Bryant of Butte, Mont., Jacob and Daniel Smith, both of Bear, and Owen and Declynn of Blaine, Minn.; and nieces, Christina Hillman of Ames, Iowa, Sarah Hillman of Dover, and Sophia Basler of Dover. In addition to the above named family members, she is survived by many loving relatives, friends and co-workers. A Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. A memorial service will be noon, Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover.
