Mary C. Clemence, 89
SMYRNA - Mary C. Clemence, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, in Silver Lake Center, Dover. She was 89. She was born on June 3, 1919 in Petersburg, the second child of Elmer and Mabel (Chambers) Cohee. She graduated from Caesar Rodney High School, class of 1937. After graduation, she worked for the Division of Weights and Measures of the Delaware Department of Agriculture, and later served as Secretary to the Dean of the College of Business and Economics at the University of Delaware, from which she retired in 1983. After retirement, she relocated to Florida, and with her husband lived the "RV" lifestyle, keeping young and active managing cabanas and refreshment stands, teaching crafts and leading water aerobics at a number of recreational vehicle parks in the Ocala, Fla. area. She returned to Smyrna in 1999, and until recently, lived at State Street Assisted Living in Dover, where she was involved in leading weekly devotions and was an officer of the resident's committee. She was preceded in death by her parents; an older brother, Lester E. Cohee; and her husband, Frederick B. Clemence. She is survived by her son and his wife, David and Jaci Hugg, of Smyrna; two grandsons, Stephen D. Hugg and his wife Dawn, of Columbus, N.J., and Douglas C. Wallace III, of Smyrna; three great-grandchildren, all of Columbus, N.J.; a granddaughter, Alexandra J. Wallace, of Smyrna; four sisters, Violet C. Marvel, of Milford, Ila C. Cooper and her husband Nolan, of Smyrna, Dorothea C. Anderson and her husband Eugene, of Seaford, and Verna C. McMullen, of Farmington; and a sister-in-law, Verna M. Cohee, of Dover. Services will be 12 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, 2008 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.
