Marvin David Barry, 81
KENNEDYVILLE, Md. - Marvin David Barry, of Kennedyville, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, in Chestertown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 81.
Mr. Barry was born on Jan. 29, 1927, in Alabama, son of the late William and Anna Mae Hall Barry.
His early years were spent in New York City.
His family moved to Salisbury, where he was a 1945 graduate of Wicomico High School.
Mr. Barry enlisted with the U.S. Army during World War II and after an honorable discharge he graduated from Goldey Beacom College in Wilmington, Del.
He was employed by the DuPont Co. for several years and served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict.
Mr. Barry returned to Maryland and graduated from Salisbury State University.
He was employed by the Parole & Probation Department in Salisbury, the Central District on the Western Shore, and from 1968 to 1981 was the director of Work Release for the state of Maryland, retiring to Kennedyville in 1981.
His memberships include Salisbury Elks Lodge, Masonic Lodges; Centennial 221, Eastern Sho' Forest 53, and Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in Baltimore, Frank M. Jarman American Legion Post 36 in Chestertown and the Kennedyville Methodist Church.
Mr. Barry is survived by his wife of 41 years, Anna Oliffe Barry; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Sterling and Doris Pomeroy of Wilmington; and nephew, Brian Pomeroy and his wife Suzanne of Sewell, N.J.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Kennedyville United Methodist Church, Kennedyville, where friends may call one hour prior.
Burial in adjoining cemetery.
