Martin Milbourne Williams

KENTON - Martin Milbourne Williams, aka, Sonny Walker of Kenton, passed away peacefully at his home in the early morning hours, Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011. He was 79. Mr. Williams was born Jan. 13, 1932, in Dover, the 6th child of the late David James Williams and Eva Willey Williams. He graduated from Smyrna High School in 1949. Mr. Williams served in the United States Army for three years as a Paratrooper with the 101st Airborne at Ft. Campbell, Ky. He then worked as a Mail Carrier; he became Postmaster of the Kenton Post Office in 1958 and retired after 35 years of service in 1987. Sonny was an avid Philadelphia Sports Fan and enjoyed reading in his spare time. He is survived by his wife, Mary Caldwell Williams, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage; three sons, Sidney C. Williams and his wife Patti of Valdosta, Ga., Stephen G. Williams and his wife Barbara Ann of Smyrna, and Walker D. Williams and his wife Noor of Camden; three daughters, Melanie P. Naylor of Kenton, Martia M. Barlow and her husband Bob of Clayton, and Helen E. Peck and her husband Ralph of Hartly; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Services for Mr. Williams will be privately held. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Delaware Hospice for their excellent care, especially Kat Cannedy, RN, and to Pam Mozert, CNA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Delaware Hospice, 911 S.
