Marquis A. Fjelsted, 87

DOVER - Marquis A. Fjelsted, of Dover, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2009, in Kent General Hospital, Dover. He was 87. Marquis was born Nov. 20, 1921, in Colfax, Wis., son of the late Ausman and Mary (Londo) Fjelsted. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Air Force and began his career on Sept. 1, 1942 to Jan. 11, 1947 and again from May 1, 1951 to Jan. 31, 1973. He retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel as a C-5 pilot at Dover Air Force Base. His career spanned from World War II through Vietnam. He was a prisoner of war for 18 months during World War II. Marquis enjoyed his retirement fishing, doing yard work and landscaping and was an accomplished cabinetmaker having made furniture for his family and friends. He was a life time member of the Military Officer's Association of America (MOAA) and the American Legion Post 2. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters and a brother. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Bess Fjelsted; son, Daniel and his wife Renee; daughter, Vicki and her husband Jim Fields; two granddaughters, Danree Heath and her husband Curtis; Dawn Kohland and her husband Lucky Kohland; three great-grandchildren, Leeann Myers and her husband Alex Myers; Cody Rash and Kassidy Kohland; and six brothers and sisters. A gathering in remembrance will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the Veterans Home, 100 Delaware Veterans Blvd., Milford, DE 19963.
