Marjorie Lyda Foraker, 81

SANDTOWN - Marjorie Lyda Foraker, of Sandtown, died Monday, May 4, 2009, at home. She was 81. She was born Feb. 28, 1928, in Sandtown, to the Harry Ralph Corkell and Nancy Ellen Thomas Corkell. On Jan. 8, 1951, she married Charles Hazel Foraker. They raised their five children in Sandtown. Mrs. Foraker's greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her spare time, she could be found gardening, reading, or watching cooking shows. She took pleasure in having her many pets and critters around her. Throughout her life, this beautiful lady loved everyone and helped anyone in need. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She was preceded in death by six brothers, Ralph, Nelson, Calvin, Robert, Arthur, and John Water Corkell; four sisters, Louise, June, Pauline, and Mary Francis Corkell; and great-granddaughter, Selena Jane Drumheller. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Charles Foraker of Sandtown; sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Elaine Foraker of Felton, and James and Sug Foraker of Sandtown; daughter and sons-in-law, Connie Sommers of Frankford, Jennie and George Short of Wittman, Md., and Linda and John Russell of Canterbury; 11 grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brothers, Carvell Corkell of Felton, William Corkell of Felton, and Eugene Corkell of Milford; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 8, at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 South DuPont Hwy., Harrington, where visitation will be one hour prior. Interment will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Sandtown. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Hwy., Dover, DE 19901; or to the Delaware Humane Assoc., 701 A Street, Wilmington, DE 19801.
