GREENSBORO, MD - Marjorie Ann Mitchell passed away on March 12, 2025, in Christina DE.
Marjorie was born on June 14, 1936, in Caroline County, MD, to Alday Drew Hanley and Pearl Edna “Fleetwood” Hanley. Not only did she come into the world there, but she also grew up in the same county. She attended Greensboro High School for a time before leaving, only to return later to earn her GED. In 1953, Marjorie married the love of her life, Wilmer, after he retired from the military.
Marjorie explored various career paths, working for a sewing company and Playtex, but she and her husband ultimately found their passion in owning their own business. Marjorie was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW and a dedicated sponsor of women's softball and men's basketball. She proudly owned two beautiful horses, was known to drive in the powder puff, and enjoyed playing poker, bingo, dominos, and 500 Rummy.
In addition to her parents, Marjorie is preceded in death by two sisters, Francis Strasser, and Dot Emory, along with one daughter, Betty Lou Mitchell, and one son, Bryan Mitchell.
Marjorie is survived by one daughter, Wilma Buckle (Buck) of Goldsboro MD, one son, Joe Mitchell of Greensboro MD, two brothers, “Sonny’ Hanley (Kim) of Oklahoma, and Bobby Hanley (Edna) of Greenwood, DE. She leaves behind a legacy with six grandchildren, Ben Buckle (Elba) of Goldsboro, MD, Barry Buckle (Lindsey) of Goldsboro, MD, Ashley Mitchell (Donny) of Canteberry, DE, Marjorie Mitchell (Keith) of Salisbury, MD, Joseph Mitchell (Briana) of Las Vegas, and Tyler Mitchell of Harrington DE along with five great-grandchildren, Christine Northrop, Kassidy Buckle, Kaytlyn Buckle, Benny Buckle, Chloe Buckle and two great-great grandchildren, Brayden Bodine, and Ella Mitchell. Marjorie is also remembered by many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Fleegle and Helfenbein Funeral Home, PA in Greensboro, MD. A service will follow the next day, March 22, 2025, at 11 a.m., and an interment will be held at Greensboro Cemetery.
