
Marina Vatick Ney, 78
MAGNOLIA - Mrs. Marina Vatick Ney passed away, December 30, 2023, at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford with her family by her side. Mrs. Ney was born July 17, 1945, in Dover, Delaware to the late George Vatick and Madge Lodge Vatick.
She served the State of Delaware for more than 30 years initially at the Delaware Fire Marshall's office as a secretary, later in the Delaware State Senate as an attaché and lastly as an administrative assistant to the Director of School Bus Transportation with the Department of Education where she retired in 2008 to become a full-time grandmother, wife and mom. She was co-owner of Blue Hen Home Improvements, Bruce Ney & Son and South Fork Preserve where she was bookkeeper, secretary and all-around peacekeeper. Mrs. Ney enjoyed meeting new people through the family businesses and the lifelong friends she made throughout her career with the State of Delaware. She was proud of her Greek Orthodox faith and attended church at St. Nicholas Church in Dover. She enjoyed entertaining and feeding whoever would walk through her door on any occasion, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas. She was very proud to be the wife and lifelong partner of Bruce, mom of Angie and Andrew and grandmother of Cody and Elani involving herself in whatever was important to her family at the time. Marina was very proud of both of her grandchildren for many things but especially for the career that they both had chosen in nursing. She would talk to anyone who crossed her path, usually making them walk away with a smile.
In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by sisters, Sofia Culver, Luxandra Hallberg and Joanna Semans.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bruce Ney of Magnolia; children, Angelia Russell and Andrew Ney both of Felton; grandchildren, Cody Ney of Portland, Oregan and Elani Russell of Felton; sisters-in-law, Barbara Walker and her husband Joseph of Rehoboth and Sandy Desantis and her husband Bill of California.
Funeral services will be held 12noon, Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. A viewing will be held one hour prior. Interment will be in Barratts' Chapel Cemetery, Frederica.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
